Are you a regular coffee drinker? Good news! Drinking coffee boosts weight loss progress AND helps you burn fat!
Coffee is the world’s most valuable traded good, second only to petroleum. In fact, we love coffee so much that the world consumes almost 2.25 billion cups of coffee every day! In the United States alone, 54% of Americans drink coffee every day.
Coffee has been shown to have numerous benefits, including:
- Helping to prevent Alzheimer’s disease
- Protecting your liver
- Decreasing your risk of certain cancers such as colon, prostate and breast cancers
- Lowers your risk of type 2 diabetes
- And more! (Read more about the benefits of coffee here)
But my FAVORITE benefits of drinking coffee is how it can help you lose more weight. That’s right! Your favorite morning cup of liquid motivation can help you shed more pounds and burn more fat!
How?
Coffee Curbs Hunger
It’s well known that drinking a cup of coffee can give you a jolt of energy in the morning. But that effect isn’t just helping you to get to work on time.
Drinking coffee boosts weight loss because it contains natural substances that affect your metabolism:
- Caffeine – stimulates your central nervous system
- Theobromine and Theophylline – also have a stimulant effect
- Chlorogenic Acid – slows down the absorption of carbohydrates in your body
Coffee has also been found in studies to help curb hunger. Drinking a cup of coffee with a meal has shown to have you eating less at the next meal.
Drinking Coffee Burns Fat
Coffee is also an amazing fat burner. The caffeine in coffee helps to stimulate your nervous system. When this occurs, the nervous system send signals to your fat cells and tells them to burn the fat.
This same caffeine also helps to increase your blood levels of a hormone called epinephrine (also known as adrenaline). This epinephrine travels through your blood and makes its way to your fat tissues. It then sends messages to burn the fat and release it into your blood. You body then uses this fat as free fatty acids.
Coffee Can Increase The Metabolic Rate
The amount of calories your body burns while at rest if called the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). What I mean by rest is, the amount of calories burned when you’re not moving, such as watching TV or sleeping.
The higher your BMR, the easier it is for you to lose weight.
Studies have shown that drinking coffee boosts weight loss by increasing your BMR up to 11%. Furthermore, this increase in your BMR is mostly because your body is using more energy to burn fat!
The caffeine in coffee also can give you more energy to exercise by burning more fat for energy. In fact, studies show that caffeine can increase your exercise performance up to 12%.
So What’s The Catch?
Unfortunately, your body gets used to the effects of caffeine so drinking coffee boosts weight loss only for a bit. However, you can combat this by cycling your coffee drinking.
Try cycling 2 weeks drinking coffee, 2 weeks not drinking coffee. That way, your body won’t get used to the effects of the caffeine and you can guarantee its weight loss boosting effects!
