If you are not pooing every day (and several times a day) then there’s a problem.

Constipation refers to the condition where you don’t go to the bathroom everyday. It may be difficult to pass your feces and as a result, you feel bloated and uncomfortable.

Everyone has suffered from constipation at least once in their lives, but if you are one of the people that suffers from this all the time, you understand the pain.

Symptoms of Constipation

If you are suffering from constipation, you may experience one or many of these symptoms:

What Causes Constipation?

Believe it or not, frequently using laxatives to relieve constipation can actually be detrimental to your health.

Why Are Laxatives Dangerous?

Even the Food and Drug Administration has said that taking over-the-counter laxatives can be potentially dangerous. Here are some of the reasons:

1. They Can Cause An Electrolyte Imbalance

heart attack, womanLaxatives help relieve constipation because they draw water out of the intestines to help the feces flow out easier. This is dangerous because frequent loss of fluids from your intestines can cause low levels of important electrolytes such as potassium, sodium and chloride.

These electrolytes play an important role in the contraction of your muscles, including your heart. Losing too many electrolytes can cause weakness, seizures, heart palpitations, heart failure and death.

Dieters that drink “dieter’s tea” or “slimming tea” don’t realize that these teas contain potent herbal laxatives (such as uva ursi) that are just as dangerous as other laxatives.

2. They Don’t Allow You To Absorb Nutrients

  • Vitamins and minerals, which play hundreds of important roles in your body such as wound healing, bone building and boosting the immune system
  • Protein, which help to carry oxygen to your cells, build muscles and produce hormones
  • Carbs, which are used as the first source of fuel for your body
  • Fats, which protect your organs, help to absorb vitamins and provide energy.
3. They Can Paralyze Your Colon

colon largeThat’s right. Overusing laxatives can cause you to lose the ability to use your colon.

This can cause even worse constipation because you can’t have a bowel movement without taking more laxatives.

If you have overused laxatives in the past and find this is the case, talk to your doctor and see if you can be weaned off. There is a possibility that colon movement might return if you stop using them slowly.


How To Relieve Constipation Naturally

Certain whole foods and natural remedies can be used to help you finally find relief!

1. Fennel

By eating fennel or fennel seeds, the smooth muscles of your digestive tract are relaxes. This stimulates the flow of bile and help to reduce digestion pain.

3. Ginger

10. Drink Water
