If you’re feeling like you need to lower inflammation in your body and cleanse your systems, this pineapple chia seed turmeric smoothie is the way to go!
If there’s one spice I ALWAYS have in my kitchen, it’s turmeric. From cold remedies to recipes, I can probably find a way to use turmeric for just about anything (except world domination…haven’t figured out that one yet).
This turmeric smoothie is basically everything that I look for in a smoothie: absolutely delicious with tons of health benefits. Turmeric is a very potent superfood as it can help heal you in many ways:
- It’s a potent anti-inflammatory
- Helps encourage weight loss – turmeric increases the flow of bile which helps to digest fat
- Anti-cancer properties
- Rich in antioxidants
- Great anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal – part of the reason why I use it for colds
- Great for the brain – research has shown that turmeric can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease
- Can help relieve arthritis pain
- Improves blood sugar levels
- Alleviates depression
The main component in turmeric that gives is all these amazing medicinal properties is called curcumin. Although turmeric has a slightly bitter taste, the pineapple and banana help to balance this perfectly to the point that you barely taste the turmeric. Plus it’s full of fiber and the chia seeds give it a little protein!
This pineapple chia seed turmeric smoothie is also:
- Very high in calcium – 56% of your entire daily requirement
- High in dietary fiber
- Very high in manganese
- Very high in vitamin C – 173% of your daily requirement
- Very high in vitamin E
If for some reason you don’t want to use frozen pineapple, add four large cubes of ice and use fresh pineapple. It should give you a similar texture.
- 1 cup pineapple frozen
- 1/2 medium banana
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tbsp lime juice fresh
- 1 cup almond milk unsweetened plain
- 1 tsp coconut shredded, unsweetened (optional)
- Blend on high until smooth.
- Enjoy!
